Project description

The project in detail.

This residential extension in Warwick was designed to create a more generous and sociable home centred around family life, natural light and views of the garden.

The rear of the property was significantly extended to provide a large open-plan kitchen, dining and living area. By bringing the principal communal spaces together, the revised layout allows the family to cook, eat, relax and entertain within one connected environment while maintaining distinct zones for each activity.

A substantial kitchen island forms the centrepiece of the interior, providing preparation space, storage and informal seating. Full-height cabinetry and integrated appliances create a clean, contemporary appearance, complemented by a restrained palette of dark finishes, pale flooring and neutral walls.

Large sliding glazed doors extend across the garden-facing elevation, bringing daylight deep into the plan and creating a direct relationship between the interior, terrace and lawn. Roof glazing introduces additional natural light from above, helping the deeper parts of the extension remain bright throughout the day.

Externally, the extension is expressed through a series of pitched roof forms finished with dark horizontal timber cladding. This creates a strong architectural identity while breaking down the overall scale of the enlarged rear elevation. The dark material palette also allows the building to sit comfortably against the mature garden setting.

The completed project provides a flexible family home with significantly improved space, circulation and garden access. It demonstrates how a carefully planned rear extension can transform the everyday use of an existing property while creating a confident and contemporary addition.
